Privacy policy, in plain English

The short version

  • No accounts, no passwords, no sign-up — we can't leak what we never collect.
  • No tracking cookies. Analytics is cookieless and measures pages, not people.
  • Your brackets and grids live in your browser (localStorage) unless you explicitly share them.
  • We never sell data, never show betting ads, never handle money.
  • This service is not directed at children under 13 (COPPA — see below).

What we collect, and why

Anonymous usage statistics

We use Plausible Analytics — a cookieless, no-personal-data tool — to count page views and funnel events (generate → share → create pool → enter → subscribe). It sets no cookies and stores no IP addresses or identifiers.

Error reports

Sentry collects crash reports (error message, stack trace, browser type) so we can fix bugs. It is configured not to send IP addresses or user-input content.

Things you type into tools

Bracket picks, squares names and pool entries you create are stored so your links work. A pool invite link shows its entries to anyone who has the link — use a nickname if you prefer. Data you never share stays in your browser's localStorage and never reaches our servers.

Email addresses you volunteer

Only when you ask for reminders or leave feedback wanting a reply. Used for exactly that one purpose — every reminder email carries a one-click unsubscribe, and unsubscribing takes effect immediately.

What we never collect

  • Payment or financial data of any kind — we never collect, hold, or pay out money.
  • Betting information, wagers, or odds preferences — this is an entertainment tool, not a sportsbook.
  • Account credentials — there are no accounts.
  • Your contacts, files, precise location, or anything outside the tools themselves.

Children's privacy (COPPA)

MatchupKing is a general-audience tool and is not directed at children under 13. Because the service has no accounts, we do not collect account information from anyone, children included — the no-registration design avoids that category of data by construction. The only personal data a child could conceivably submit is an email address typed into a reminder or feedback form. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if a parent or guardian believes a child has done so, email hello@matchupking.com and we will delete it promptly.

Cookies & advertising

We set no tracking cookies today. Functional browser storage (localStorage) keeps your in-progress brackets, grids and pool manager access on your own device — it never leaves your browser. If we introduce display advertising later, this page will be updated before the first ad loads, including any cookie the ad network requires.

Retention & deletion

Reminder subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Pool data persists so shared links keep working; to delete a pool, a bracket, or anything else tied to you, email hello@matchupking.com from the address concerned (or with the pool link) and we'll remove it. Backups and logs roll off on a short cycle.

Changes to this policy

Material changes get announced on this page with a new "last updated" date before they take effect. The tools that make this policy short — no accounts, no money, no tracking cookies — are design decisions, not temporary conveniences.
